The Health and Retirement Study Contextual Data Resource (HRS-CDR) is a collection of user-friendly datasets that enable researchers to study the impact of place on health and well-being among HRS respondents. The HRS-CDR data products are created by a joint project of the University of Southern California and the University of Michigan, sponsored by the National Institute on Aging (NIA_R21AG045625).
The 2018 version of the HRS-CDR Dartmouth Atlas of Heath Care dataset uses primary data collected by Medicare to document how medical resources are distributed and used in the United States. Data are organized topically by year, with multiple levels of geographic specificity provided for each topic. Some files are already merged to respondent level geographic files while others can be linked to the HRS Cross-Wave Geographic Detail file at the geographic level of interest. Data availability across years ranges from 2000-2010 and varies from topic to topic; see the variable codebook for details.

- HRS Contextual Data Resources are available only to users of the MiCDA Enclave VDI, and are only available for use with restricted data geographic information products.
- The geographic information contained in the merged dataset is not included in any HRS public file and may not be merged with any other Restricted Data Set without the explicit written permission of HRS.
