The HRS HCAP 2016 Final Data release includes three data files that are released as two separate data products as described below.
HRS 2016 HCAP Respondent and Informant Data
The first two files are updated HCAP Respondent and HCAP Informant data sets, which now include imputations, updated variable naming to map closely to that used by the Gateway to Global Aging, and additional data cleaning. See the updated Data Description and Codebook for details. The 2016 HCAP Respondent data file includes several new variables, including the dementia algorithm diagnostic variable (Manly et al., 2022) and three additional sub-scores noted below:
R1HCAPDX: W1 RESPONDENT HCAP DEMENTIA-MCI DIAGNOSIS ALGORITHM
R1OBJECT: W1 R OBJECT NAMING TOTAL SCORE (0-2)
R1WORD_TOTAL: W1 R CERAD WORD LIST IMMEDIATE TOTAL (0-30)
RQWLREC_TOTSCORE: W1 R CERAD WORD LIST RECOGNITION: TOTAL SCORE
The HCAP Informant data set includes one additional score:
INF1RELSCORE: W1 INF CSID INFORMANT INTERVIEW SCORE 0-30
HRS 2016 HCAP Summary Cognitive and Functional Measures Data
The new Summary Cognitive and Functional Measures is the third data set and it includes factor scores and additional processed cognitive performance and functional performance measures based on the work reported in Jones et al. (2023). This file also includes the dementia algorithm diagnostic variable (Manly et al., 2022) found in the HRS HCAP 2016 Respondent data file. See the new Data Documentation and Codebook for details about this new data file.
